last night we celebrated the fourth anniversary of a local bookstore: viento helado. if you live in or around xalapa, you know business is difficult, so to survive four years is almost a miracle.

to commemorate the moment, after work, i quickly printed a card for our friends who own the bookstore.

i set the type and block rather haphazardly, but still with care, and i began printing. letterpress printing is a repetitive and meditative process. during the quick process yesterday, i thought about how my i love printing gifts. i mix the ink, set the type, pick the paper, and print with love. this is the origin of printing and printmaking: to gift something to the world.

anoche celebramos el cuarto aniversario de una librería local: viento helado. si vives en xalapa o cerca, sabes que tener un negocio no es nada fácil; llegar a cuatro años es casi un milagro.

para marcar el momento, después del trabajo imprimí de volada una tarjeta para nuestros amigos, los dueños de la librería.

acomodé las tipos y el bloque medio al tanteo, pero con cuidado, y me puse a imprimir. la impresión tipográfica es un proceso repetitivo, casi meditativo. mientras avanzaba con el tiraje rápido de ayer, pensaba en lo mucho que disfruto hacer regalos impresos: mezclar la tinta, componiendo las líneas tipográficas, elegir el papel e imprimir con cariño. ese es, al final, el origen de la impresión y el grabado: compartir algo con el mundo.
